The annual lilac festival that takes place each May
features 16 days of celebration, arts and crafts, a ball, a parade and coronation of the Lilac queen. Lombard is the home of Harold Gray, the original artist that compiled the cartoon strip Little Orphan Annie. The studio in which he worked is now featured as a beautiful historic site. And the beautiful Maple Street Chapel, built in 1870, was the city's first town hall and library. Lilacia Park was the former home of Colonel William Plum where he had a large garden of 200 varieties of lilacs that was eventually made into a public park.
